SS Great Britain & Being Brunel

thumbnail_ACS_0039.jpg

Last weekend I decided to take my nieces out to visit the SS Great Britain, which was perfect timing as we were able to visit the new museum. Being Brunel, as the name suggests, is dedicated to the life of the wonderful inventor that is Isambard Kingdom Brunel.

thumbnail_ACS_0043

As soon as you enter the museum you can’t help but notice this gigantic statue of the man himself. It’s incredibly detailed and a real show stopper.

Throughout the museum there are plenty of attractions to keep children entertained. On arrival there is even a chance to try out Brunel’s hat out for yourself, a real favourite with not only children, but adults too!

Remember to check in every drawer in order to get the most out of every artifact.

The museum features six galleries, showcasing 150 of Brunel’s personal artefacts. It’s a great insight into his work, but more importantly his family, life and creative mind. My favourite attraction was the chance to step inside Brunel’s mind. There is a cinematic experience behind the large statue, which gives you an short insight into his thoughts and feelings.

When I asked my nieces what their favourite part of the museum was, they said that they really enjoyed the moving train. This simulated carriage gives you the chance to attempt and draw a circle as perfect as Brunel’s, it’s safe to say we didn’t do as well as he did.

After checking out Being Brunel, it was time to step onto the SS Great Britain. Before boarding the boat it was only right we had a little dress up to get ourselves into character. I must admit I think I enjoyed this just as much as the kids did.

There are so many interactive experiences on the top deck of the boat. One part of the boat that I was not brave enough to explore was Go Aloft. This gives you the chance to climb the sails of the boat. I can only imagine how great the views would be from up there.

thumbnail_ACS_0057.jpg

After exploring the top deck we ventured down below. I was amazed with how big the boat was. It took us well over an hour to explore the whole boat, peeping into every dorm and enjoying the replicas. Everything in the boat is really realistic, even down to the interesting scents.

One thing I would say is to hold your nose when you explore the washrooms, it’s a smell you will never forget!

I am really pleased we had a chance to visit this museum and although the weather wasn’t on our side, we still had a fantastic time. With the weather being as unpredictable as it has been lately, this is definitely a day out to keep in mind.

We had an incredible time and I can’t wait to go back and do it all again!

Amphora Aromatics Review

After recently discovering a new organic and locally based brand, I was so excited to test out some of their products. Amphora Aromatics have more than 30 years’ experience in creating amazing aromatherapy products. They use high quality ingredients from independent producers around the world, which is definitely reflected in their products.

The company prides itself in creating high quality products, yet still being able to sell them at a reasonable price.

thumbnail_ACS_0012

The first product that I am obsessing over is from the essentials collection is the Sandalwood and Palmavosa Moisturising Face Lotion. One of the reasons why I love this face lotion is that it’s incredibly light on the skin. The refreshing fragrance is the perfect scent to get you ready for the day.

I’ve been using this product for just over a week and it’s a huge impact on my face. I love using it in the morning as it’s the perfect base to apply my makeup, or to simply leave my skin feeling refreshed. It really does protect your skin from the cold winter months and leaves it feeling silky smooth.

The second product I tried out was the Sleep blend from their Aromatherapy Blend collection. Amphora Aromatics have six new blends, all of which are 100% pure. The range includes Sleep, Energise, Revive, Focus, Relax and Festive. They can be used in diffusers or burners to help promote relaxation and well being.

These oils are priced at just £7.50, which is incredible value for money.

I tried out SleepComforting

“A relaxing and balancing blend of Juniper, Patchouli and Lavender gently soothes you to sleep. Comforting and warming Orange, Marjoram and Howood help combat insomnia by working to calm restlessness and anxiety – promoting peace and tranquillity. “           www.amphora-retail.com

Like many of us, I spend most of my week stressing out at work and drinking way too much coffee for my own good. Unfortunately this is regularly reflected in my sleeping pattern. With this in mind, I was excited to try out this blend and see if it would make a genuine difference to my routine.

Not only did this help me have a incredible nights sleep, I felt much more relaxed and stress-free in the evenings. This product definitely helps you chill out and it’s something I will be continuing to use for a long time.

If you’re looking for some natural and locally sourced products, then I definitely recommend you check out this brand. They’re based on Cotham Hill, Bristol or you can find them online at www.amphora-retail.com

Health & Beauty Bristol Blogger Event

I recently attended a Blogging event in which Health and Beauty bloggers and brands met to collaborate and socialise with each other.

The event was held at the Bristol City Centre Marriott Hotel. On arrival we were greeted with an amazing spread of delicious sweets and treats. I was so impressed with the decor in the hotel. The room we used was themed with Bristol’s greatest attractions and some incredible artwork. Below is a feature wall which I automatically fell in love with.

Not only was the atmosphere incredible, but the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. If you’re looking for a place to stay in Bristol, then I would definitely recommend you check out this hotel as it’s in the perfect location and you will get a real taste of Bristol

thumbnail_ACS_0002.jpg

I really enjoyed socialising with other bloggers and it was great to hear what others are truly passionate about. Along with meeting like minded bloggers, there were some really great local based brands at the event. The brands featured at the event were Amphora Aromatics, The Somerset Toiletry Company, Shy Mimosa Perfumery, Scentered, Grace Emmerson and The Pilates Room. All of which were incredibly friendly. I can’t wait to try out some of their lovely products for myself.

Thank you so much to Heather Cowper for organising the event. It was a really good opportunity to socialise and collaborate with some brilliant people. I’d also like to thank The Marriot Hotel for having us all, it was a great evening and I really enjoyed myself.

If you’re currently starting up your own blog then I would definitely recommend attending a local blogging event in your area. It’s a great place to pick up tips from like minded people and help get your name out there.

Aluna Cocktail Bar and Restaurant Bristol

Last Saturday my boyfriend and I took a trip to Aluna in Bristol and I can honestly say I am very impressed. Aluna is a cocktail bar and restaurant situated in the City Centre of Bristol. As Aluna is well known for its extravagant cocktails, it was only right that we tried them out whilst enjoying their delicious menu.

thumbnail_IMG_2210

To start I decided to have the breaded mushrooms which was a brilliant choice. The texture of these were perfect and unlike others I have tried elsewhere, they were not greasy at all. They made the perfect starter.

thumbnail_IMG_2208

My boyfriend chose the Salt Chilli Squid as his starter (as he is much more adventurous than myself). He loved his starter and was pleased with how the chilli sauce complemented the squid.

For our mains we had the Pan Fried Duck in Ponzu Sauce and Chicken Florentine. Both dishes were bursting with flavour and the generous portions definitely filled us up. My boyfriend really enjoyed the texture of the duck, and I felt that the mushroom sauce with the Chicken Florentine was incredible. I will definitely be ordering this main again when I return to the restaurant.

thumbnail_IMG_2242

So after finishing our first two courses, we decided to finish off our meal with a delicious dessert. I had the chocolate brownie which was so moist and chocolatey.
Just looking at this picture makes me want to eat it all over again.

My boyfriend decided to go with the Apple Sorbet. Both desserts were well presented and after stealing a spoonful of the sorbet, I can agree that its definitely a tasty and refreshing finish to any meal.

So after giving you a run down of all the delicious food we indulged in – and probably leaving you very hungry, it’s time to show you what amazing cocktails we had.

We tried out several cocktails whilst we were there, including the Mojito and Pomegranate Cosmo. If you’re a fan of Mojitos then you definitely need to take a trip to this cocktail bar. All of their cocktails are incredibly refreshing and I was so impressed with how well presented they were.

thumbnail_IMG_2229

After asking the waiter (who was incredible throughout the whole service) which cocktails she recommended, I decided to try out both the Pomegranate Cosmo and Mangolian. Both of these cocktails featured on the Midnight Madness section of the cocktail menu. It was described as ‘The science behind the cocktails’ and after trying them out I can definitely see why.

Both cocktails came out with a bang, featuring an incredible bubbling frost to them. It’s hard to describe in words, so you can watch a video of the Pomegranate Cosmo in action here

Overall as you can probably tell, I was so impressed with the service, food and incredible cocktails at Aluna.  We have both decided that this is our new favourite place and we will definitely be spending our next date night here.

I wanted to make sure that I mentioned that we were really impressed with the staff at Aluna. We were served by a lovely lady named Tory and I would like to thank her for going the extra mile for us and making our experience truly special.

She offered the best recommendations and the service we received definitely helped create the perfect atmosphere!

.

If you’re looking to go out for a special meal, or just wanting to try out some spectacular cocktails, then I would definitely recommend you take a trip to Aluna.

The Body Shop Tea Tree Anti-Imperfection Daily Solution Review

thumbnail_IMG_1860

If you have read any of my previous blog posts you will know how obsessed I am with The Body Shop’s Tea Tree range. When I am having a bad skin day I always turn to their products to help me out.

Whilst doing my usual shop in The Body Shop, I came across the Anti-Imperfection Daily Solution. The product promotes itself as being a light weight serum which can be used daily to produce clearer, healthier and mattified skin.

The product comes in a glass bottle and has a droplet applicator attached to it.

After using this product for a few weeks I have definitely noticed a difference in my skin. I have been using the product both day and night and I have noticed my skin has definitely reduced in oiliness. It has also helped reduce the redness on any blemishes I have had, whilst minimising pores.

I love using this product as it makes my skin feel extremely soft and refreshed. I feel as though this product will last me a lifetime as you only need three or four drops each time.

As always The Body Shop have impressed me with this product and it will definitely be a product I will continue using.

I’d love to hear which products you love from The Body Shop.

xoxo

AP-24 Whitening Fluoride Toothpaste Review

thumbnail_IMG_0666

For somebody who loves coffee as much as I do, the colour of my teeth is always a concern to me. As I am only 22 years old, I feel that it’s important for me to take care of my teeth to ensure that they stay healthy and pearly white for as long as possible.

I am always on the look out for a toothpaste which helps whiten my teeth, so I jumped at the chance to try out the AP-24 Whitening Fluoride Toothpaste by NU Skin.

In order to gain an honest view of the product, I decided to wait until I had used up the whole tube before writing my review. One thing to note is that this tube seemed to last forever.

Unlike many other whitening toothpastes, this one did not leave a nasty taste in my mouth. It was very refreshing and after looking back at my before and after photographs, I can definitely see a positive change in the colour of my teeth.

BeFunky Collage.jpg

There was around five to six weeks between the two photos, but I can already tell a difference between the patchiness of my teeth. I also continued to drink as much coffee as I wanted whilst using this toothpaste in order to get a realistic result.

I love this product as it does not break the bank, but there are clear results when using the product. My teeth feel much cleaner and I will definitely continue to use this product.

If you’re looking for an easy and cost effective way to brighten your teeth, I would definitely recommend you give this toothpaste a go.

Lace in Fashion -Fashion Museum Bath

befunky-collage

Last week I was lucky enough to attend a sneak preview of the Lace in Fashion exhibition at The Fashion Museum in Bath. The exhibition runs from February 4th 2017 until the January 1st 2018.

“Drawing on the riches of the Fashion Museum’s collection, as well as generous loans from contemporary fashion designers, the exhibition showcases 50 exquisite pieces, showing how lace has been used in fashion from the 1500s to the present day.”

On arrival we were welcomed with refreshments and had a chance to admire the collection whilst waiting for everyone to arrive. We were then given an amazing tour of the collections, enabling us to revisit the history behind each piece.

It was interesting to see how lace had began as a hand made art, taking hours to complete and only to be worn by the wealthiest of people. Many of the pieces we visited included collars and cuffs, carefully designed and perfected by delicate hand made lace.

bloggers_lace_25

It was amazing to see how far lace had come in terms of both technology and fashion. Lace can now be easily found on both the high street and catwalk, which makes it interesting to see how it has transformed throughout the years.

There are many collections to see, featuring some interesting and inspiring work.  Glamorous pieces come into play throughout the exhibition and there are some beautiful dresses which definitely caught my eye.

If you’re looking to spend the day admiring wonderful fashion, then I would definitely recommend you head to the Fashion Museum in Bath. Not only will you find this extraordinary collection, but you can venture through galleries filled with historical and contemporary fashion.
